Quick recap- my wife and I are currently sharing a car while she’s unable to work, however she should be able to work again in a month or so at which point we will want a second car. My search has led me to s197's lately, I especially love the rare glass roof. My main debate is, 4.6 v8 or the newer 3.7 v6? I’m coming from an NC and I don’t really want a 400+ hp monster, I think the 300ish of both those engines would be perfect. I still worry though that I would always have a tinge of v8 envy if I went for the later v6 instead, but aside from the sound I think the v6 would be a better fit. So which would you choose? I haven’t started test driving yet but maybe this weekend. V8 rumble and maybe more reliable ? Or better gas mileage and ride with the newer v6? Styling wise I think I prefer the later facelift slightly too. Just needs a purple wrap.

My dad had a GT with the glass roof. Can’t go wrong!

V8. The sound alone is worth it

I think the mod v8 sounds like ass 9/10

I had a 2009 GT with the glass roof. The V8 sound was worth it. You could get slightly more modern styling with a 2010, but I’m not sure the glass roof was an option that year.
I traded it in on an Ecoboost convertible - which is an all around much better car, but I miss the GT.

I mean, the V6 feels fine. I’ve never driven the V8, but I don’t know why you couldn’t daily it just fine as long as you don’t drive like an ass.
After all, I DD’d a rotary for 13 years, and I’ll still (probably) be able to pay for my kid’s college.

V8, its a mustang and unless its a boostang there really is no reason to go for the v6. Also the sound of a good V8 is not something to take lightly. My 89' still has me giggling everytime I start it up.

Coyote is the correct answer on the mustang.

For every GT350 there are 20 SN95’s with booger welded straight pipes

Yeah but budget, and also I’ve never had anything even half that powerful before, don’t want to take out too many pedestrians. The plan for this car is DD for a couple years and then do mods or trade up.

I found a 2011 with the glass roof nearby, manual v6, that’ll be the first drive. I think the glass roof continued until the end of that gen though in 2014.

Fuel economy and not-jail-power are my main reasons, but I do want the sound.... maybe a 2010-facelift styling but still using the mod v8?

I’ve been known to ass on occasion..... I think the v6 fits my needs just fine, I just worry I’ll always have the v8 shadow in the back of my mind.

Lovely! I was so excited when I learned about the glass roof, I’m sick of convertibles and don’t even really care if it opens, just want to be able to take my wife stargazing or drive in the rain. How is the factory tint on it? Too dark to stargaze?

No, perfect for that!

Darn, now I feel like it’s a must have.... and they’re rare.

That is true. But one with an actual exhaust sounds good. This is coming from a guy who has a LS1 rx7 with pretty much straight pipes...

I went from 220hp(really more like 150hp in an SUV, long story) to 405hp with less weight. It’s an easy learning curve as long as you aren’t stupid with it. You’ll hate yourself for not getting a V8, but then you’ll hate yourself for getting a 4.6.

I should clarify. By being fine, I mean the V6 sounds great and pushes me into my seat enough to make me smile. So, take that for what it’s worth.

The better question is are you prepared to answer the question “why didn’t you buy the V8?” several times a day for the duration of your ownership?
Also, Mustangs should have a V8 soundtrack. It's half the point! ;)

I’ll let you know in 12-16 weeks. I recently ordered a 2019 GT convertible . Red. With a stick. And the active valve exhaust so I can act obnoxious when I want to be a bad boy , and also be quiet when leaving the neighborhood.
We rented an automatic 2018 Ecoboot vert in Florida a month ago. I liked it. I think the ecoboost is a good fit for the Stang.
I just had to have V8.

Yeah that's all I really need, I'm just worried in a year or two I'll wish I had gone for a v8.

Are you my Buyer/ Angel?! ?
I have a 2013 Mustang GT with the glass roof that’s gonna be for sale this year. How close are you to Michigan?

Chicago, but probably not unfortunately, I'm sure that's way above my budget.

I guess it depends on how many zeroes you can put after “2"...
